Brief Biography
David Emslie was born in 1975 in Edinburgh, Scotland and lived there until the age of 17.
In 1996 he received his B.Sc. (1st class Honours) degree in Chemistry from the University of Bristol (England), at which point he undertook a Ph.D. with Prof. Neil G. Connelly, also at the University of Bristol. The title of this Ph.D. thesis was "The Redox Chemistry of Rhodium(I) Pyrazolylborate and Related complexes".
From February 2000 to June 2003, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow with Prof. Warren E. Piers at the University of Calgary (Alberta, Canada). His research was focused on non-cyclopentadienyl scandium and yttrium organometallic chemistry (2000-2002) and borabenzene chemistry (2002-2003).
In July 2003, he joined the Department of Chemistry at McMaster University as an Assistant Professor, and he was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor with tenure in 2009, and then Professor in 2018.
For 2016-2018 he was Associate Chair, Graduate Studies in the Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology.
For 2015-2016 he was Acting Associate Chair, Graduate Studies in the Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology.
